Life Plan Project

Emotional Wellness:

I will keep my emotional wellness throughout the next 12 months. By getting to know new people and help them in whatever need they need since I am going on a mission for my church I will be helping people and sharing my religion somewhere around the world. I will get a chance to see people change their lives for the better and help them with any life problem they have. I will get to create relationships with people and also with my companion that I will live with for a couple of months than I will get a new partner. Since I have to live with him I will have to get to know him and know what he likes, dislikes, pet peeves are, and other things like that. My Cousin is on a mission right now and he says how the people are nice and how he gets to help them and him and his companion got to get to know each other and know what they like and dislikes are. It is really cool for me to hear that since my cousin wasn’t the really emotional one I get to hear how he has changed so much. Then if I get sent to a country that I’ve never been to and just have 1 story when I get there. I will be able to see more of what the people go through each day and get a understanding for them so then when I come back I will not have just 1 story but many and will not just see them as whatever that story was. So I will be using emotional wellness pretty much everyday for the next 24 months.

Environmental Wellness:

I will keep my environmental wellness throughout the next 12 months. I will reduce, reuse, recycle. I will reduce my time in the shower to save water. It will help since we are in a drought it will conserve water. I can also not use as much electricity by turning off the lights in rooms I’m not in. I can reuse leftover food to make my meal for the next day this will help the landfill not get filled so much. I will recycle cans, glass, and water bottles not only get money but to help the landfills get rid of plastic in them. So will not only help the environment but it will also help my pocket. So while I am helping the environment the environment is helping me. We need to take care of the environment because it takes care of us. If we don’t start to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle the earth will start to look like our landfills which is not a good thing if you didn’t know. So I will make sure that I will always use the three R’s. I will try to make every companion that I will have use the three R’s also so than maybe they can influence others.

Financial Wellness:

I will pay for my mission and my family will help me also help me pay. I will have to pay for my Suits, Food, and other things that I will need for my mission. I will have a budget of 400 dollars a month. I will either make my own food or have church members make dinner for my companion and I and we will go to their house and eat.

Intellectual Wellness:

I will learn new skills by being able to get to use my talkative skills and also by getting to know the culture of where i’m at. It will be interesting to see how I will adapt to where ever I will be sent and see what skills I will use and create. I will not be learning educationally but I will be learning a new language and culture. I will have the opportunity to get to experience how other people live and act, which to me is so valuable to get a different perspective and understanding for the people that I will be serving. I will also grow in knowledge of my church and of scriptures since I will be studying them for hours on hours so that I could have a better knowledge of what I am sharing and I will be able to see myself grow in knowledge. I will study the book of mormon and bible with my companion in the morning, when we are walking, and at night. We will be able to learn from the people whom we are serving they will teach us there culture and let us into their personal life. I will also learn how to be an independent adult by having a seduchele of waking up at 5am go work out for an hour, then have scripture study for another hour, then make breakfast and be out of the apartment by 8. I will learn to be organized by making appointments and making sure I get there on time. I am excited to see how I will adapt and what the outcome will be when I come home from my mission. It will change my entire perspective on how I treat and see other because I will be serving my heavenly father.

Physical Wellness:

I will keep my physical wellness by having a workout everyday at 5am for an hour it will either be a run, bodyweight workout or both of these things. I will also be walking or riding a bike every day from 8am till around 9pm which will keep me in shape and I wouldn’t be walking on just concrete I could be in the snow, rain, desert, jungle, or pretty much any place you could think of I could be there walking. So between working out every day for an hour and walking or cycling all day I will have the physical activity part down I will need to watch my diet. I will eat breakfast, lunch and dinner however my cousin who is serving his mission only eats lunch because food is too expensive where he is at. However I could have food prepared for me by members of the church but that is not always the case I would most likely make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My diet will depend on where I am sent and depend on the resources they have. To make sure I have all of the Physical wellness down I will need to get enough sleep which in my case I will have enough sleep since I will need to be in my apartment by 9pm I will have plenty of sleep. I will have plenty of sleep, physical activity, and my diet will be all good. I will be in the best shape of my life during those 2 years.

Spiritual Wellness:

I will keep my spiritual wellness by Expanding my sense of purpose and meaning of life.I will volunteer into boy scouts and make sure that everyone of them have a chance to get their Eagle Scout Award. I will also make sure that people will remember me by being a good person to all that I meet. It will be hard for me since i’m not known as a nice person, however; while on my mission I will have a chance to see different people and their point of views which will change the way that I think and act. I will go on a mission and help myself and others be good with their lives and spread my religion. I will be doing this for 2 years during those 2 years i will strengthen my spiritual wellness by so much since i will not be distracted by worldly things and just worry about helping others and strengthen my spiritual side.

How To Throw a Shotput

High School Shot Put

A shot put is a metal ball that can weigh from 10 pounds to 16 pounds.

Rules

In high school a junior varsity and varsity shot put weighs 12 pounds.

When throwing the shot put you have to stay in a ring you can not step out of the ring when throwing or else it will not count. If you touch the top of the toeboard it is the same as stepping over it, you also have to exit out of the ring out the back half of the ring Under control or else it will not count. There are lines to show where the half of the circle is. Now that you know the rules these are the steps to throw a shot put.

Effects of Bullying

Bullying

Why are so many kids bullied when they are young and what are the results of this? “Bullying builds character like nuclear waste creates superheroes. It’s a rare occurrence and often does more damage than endowment” (Van). Bullying is a huge problem in our nation where too many kids are being affected and as a result of that they suffer from emotional and physical consequences caused from bullying.

Research Process

My partner and I research process involved gathering several sources about the effects bullying both physical and emotional.  We organized my ideas on my graphic organizer, first starting with my essential question of, ” How does bullying affect the health of kids?” Our driving questions were invoking both the physical and emotional aspects of bullying.  Our actual research paper, Titled “Effects of bullying” includes physical and emotional problems that get created by bullying and how you can help and stop those problems. Our brochure, which I plan to distribute at the Health Fair, clearly outlines all of the effects of bullying and ways to stop/help victims of bullying.

Stopping Bullying

Bullying is not just Kids being kids anymore it has gotten worse than that we as humans constantly look for other differences and judge them on that just because they are different from ours. It can all be stopped if just one kid stood up for another kid. We need to teach the younger generation that bullying isn’t a joke and if can do some serious harm to the victims of bullying.

Evolution of the Music Revolution

¨Fight Songz¨

How has protest in the form of music affected social and political issues of the past?

Slavery Influence

Music has always been a way to express yourself and how you feel. It has always affected the people who hear it.  In 1865-1877 slaves used music to express themselves and let their masters know that no matter how badly they were treated they were still human beings. The song that we chose from this era was “Go Down Moses” the is about how Moses went down and freed his people from Pharaoh. I interpreted it as they want Moses to come to the plantations and repeat what he did to his people for them since his people were slaves until he freed them they hope that that will happen to them.

Great Depression Opens up Blues

Music has changed its form many times in the 1920’s-1930’s the Blues was the main form of music that they listened to. We chose “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again,” because it was talking about the sad times of the war and how when people came back they were not treated as veterans but as a nobody. They were only treated well when the first got home like in the song how it says:

When Johnny comes marching home again Hurrah! Hurrah! We’ll give him a hearty welcome then Hurrah! Hurrah! The men will cheer, and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we’ll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home.”

It is saying how happy they will be when the soldiers come home but they are only happy on day and the rest of the days after that it’s just like a normal day.

Freedom for Our Folk

imagesIn the 1950’s and 1960’s there was a lot of social discomfort between races and sexes. The song that we picked to show how some people change their social views after this song is“This Land is Your Land” it is a song about equality for everyone. In the end of this song it says,

One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple By the Relief Office I saw my people — As they stood hungry,”

he never says what color or sex they are he just say my people and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just white people who were hungry but all kinds of races, ages, and sex that need food to feed their families or themselves. It also says this land is everyone’s, people realized what is really meant and started treating everyone equally, however; most people didn’t change their views.

screenshot-2016-12-10-at-8-58-00-pm The song that we chose in the 1960s-1970s is Fortunate Son because it was supposed to changeimages political minds since this is an anti-war song.It was written during the Vietnam war since it was televised many people didn’t like what they saw the song was a key factor to start a peaceful civil protest to end the war. The song influenced many people and also put political people in bad place to listen to the people or to keep the war going and upset the public.

Blow the Trumpet

yg-macklemore-g-eazy-fuck-donald-trump-00-12cdt1d-300x180For our modern day song we chose F*** Donald Trump we chose this because it is showing hatred towards Donald Trump and saying how there are many bad things about him and how no one should vote for him in the election. The song is also confronting racism and discrimination in today’s world. This song was meant to make racism and discrimination more noticeable and also to show that Donald Trump himself is racist. The song could be seen as a pro-Hillary Clinton song. It influenced people to not vote for Donald Trump it also probably influenced Donald Trump to not be so discriminating and racist during his speeches. This song was heard by many of today’s youth and it most likely influenced them to not like Donald Trump. It is also a catchy song.

Is it Because He’s Black?

Its Been Going On For Too Long

The stereotypical black man being the ¨criminal¨ is without a doubt wrong. This form of hatred dates back as far as slavery and the Jim Crow era. Racism and Discrimination towards black men in America has grown rapidly within the last few years. There are black men being killed by KKK members. There are unarmed black men being brutally beaten or even killed by police.

Police Brutality

Police brutality needs to be stopped, It is the most popular for of discrimination towards black males today.  Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week (MappingPoliceViolence). It’s not a question of how many blacks were killed by police opposed to whites because Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015 (MappingPoliceViolence). This goes to show how crucial this topic has been in our society today. Also, 37% of unarmed people killed by police were black in 2015 despite black people being only 13% of the U.S. population(MappingPoliceViolence). Nearly 1 in 3 black people killed by police in 2015 were identified as unarmed, though the actual number is likely higher due to under reporting(MappingPoliceViolence).

What is Being Done?

According to NewsOne, nothing significant is being done about this for of discrimination. Black males are often stereotyped as a criminal and it has been going on for decades. The five things that are being one are not being done by higher officials. All attempts to stop this issue is being done by communities. People are protesting; They are recording police brutality. Citizens are voting out politicians who condone police brutality. Communities engage in dialogue with police; they are taking legal actions and suing police departments.

Graph Showing Police Targeting Blacks Most

We will approach this proposal by:

  • Write a petition to Anthony Barela
  • Discuss with ASB on putting together a fundraiser(get students involved)
  • Meet with the superintendent of Vista Unified School District(Publicity)
  • Make open to community (ideas, donations, etc.)
  • Write letters of interests to local companies(get community involved)

Make This Public To Everyone

Many people feel the need to violently protest against these matters. Others are publicizing issues or even composing songs. My partner Erick Mejicanos  and I have decided to create a mural that portrays not only peace but equity in treatment for black males who are being stereotyped. We will incorporate many issues that fall into this category including  police brutality and affected communities . In this Mural, we hope to not only promote awareness of this issue but give positive input. Our purpose is to give hope to those who are dealing with this issue by letting them know that there are people out there who understand that something needs to be done. We also want to educate the community on how African American males are being discriminated in society; there are multiple aspects that show this. For instance: Police Brutality, educational equity, job equality. This mural is supposed to encourage people to not only stop stereotyping blacks but to stop stereotyping period.

Mountain Biking Events

Earlier in October Red Bull held an event called  Rampage which is an event were 21 athletes are invited to go to see who is the best rider. Throughout the week they create a line from a mountain side to ride and they get scored by how technical the line is and the tricks they do throughout the line. Also it is pretty cool to see them pull off the tricks and see how they make a trial out of the side of a cliff.

Red Bull held other multiple Mounting biking events like Red Bull Hardline which is a downhill event where riders go down a mountain with rough terrain to test the limits of their bikes and their skills. Each rider tries to go down the trail as fast as they can to get the fastest time. However when they do this some riders wipeout and get seriously hurt due to the big drops, rough terrain and the speed which they are going at.

Another event held by Red Bull was Joyride It is an event that is like Red Bull Rampage but has jumps and big berms already set up for them to do. So throughout the week they practice the track to try to pull off tricks. I rider with the smoothest and most difficult tricks wins. They get scored on by tricks, smoothness, and how difficult they are.

These three events are some of the events that I would like to visit to see the riders pull off their best tricks. It would be pretty cool if I were able take a picture with one of the riders. I would also like to go to see their bikes since their bikes are worth thousands of dollars. If I were able to talk to one of them I would ask them if I could ride their bike or just go see their bike pitstop.

“Bring Water Back Again¨

S & E Recycling is a water utility service, a profitable company, that serves the residents of San Diego County for the time being.   S & E´s goal is to alleviate drought contributors and lower the bill on water use for residents of San Diego County by creating solutions such as faucet timers, dripping systems(irrigation), teaching residents how to efficiently use sprinkler systems.  In creation, our ideas flow as wide as ¨faucet-timers¨, ¨dripping-systems¨, etc. By creating and selling these items, we hope to slow down the rate of drought. S & E receives support from county charitable organizations.

Why San Diego?

73.63
average daily gallons

used by each residential
customer for August 2016

66.42
average daily gallons
used by each residential
customer for August 2015

On average, San Diego County residents use up to 305 gallons of water per day. The Average water use over the U.S is within 80-100 gallons of water per day. S & E wants to decrease this ratio and conserve on water usage in San Diego. San Diego County residents alone use more water than all of California. These residents are only using 9% less than the whole worlds use for agriculture. (World use for agriculture= 69%)

First, Brain Stormscreenshot-2016-11-02-at-9-11-31-pm1st 20 topics to chose from

We really did not know what issue would make a great business. After narrowing down on topics and really thinking about our interests and what we think would be fun, we both agreed on a topic that corresponds with water. So we both chose to build our ideas the drought issue in California.

Mountain Biking

Biking in general has been a big way of transportation in the 1990’s and still is now. According to the Marin Museum of Bicycling in 1896 the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps rode from Missoula, Montana, to Yellowstone National Park and back to make sure that the bicycle could handle the mountainous terrain.

Since then the Mountain Bike has evolved with adding gears, using balloon tires, flat handlebars, and a

Schwinn world Diamond Frame. these modifications were made by an offroading enthusiast, John Finley Scott. He Called the bike, The Woodsie Bike. Then people kept on adding different things to the bike to make the bike a better and faster. Until they created 2 major different types of mountain bikes: There are Hardtails which only have a front suspension fork. There are Full suspension bikes which have a front suspension fork and a rear suspension shocks. Then they created different performance bikes with full suspension: There are Downhill Bikes which are used for racing down a mountain as fast as you can and they have a bigger suspension to absorb big jumps and drops.

There are Slopestyle Bikes which are used for built for park competitions containing insanely large jumps, wallrides and stunts.

There are Freeride Bikes that will allow you to hit 2m+ drops to flat, hit burly lines, gap large jumps, descend on uncharted territory. However to get to the top of your trail or course you usually push the bike or have someone give you a ride there by car. Those are just the types of bikes that interest me.

I enjoy mountain biking because it is fun and excited to do and to watch recently Red Bull held an event called  Rampage which is an event were 21 athletes are invited to go to see who is the best rider. Throughout the week they create a line from a mountain side to ride and they get scored by how technical the line is and the tricks they do throughout the line. Physical Wellness

Physical Wellness Defined

Physical Wellness encourages the balance of physical activity, nutrition and mental well-being. You have to exercise in order to have a healthy life. If you exercise it will give you energy and also make you feel better that day ad every day you exercise. I have experienced this since I am part of the football team at my school we would exercise in the morning and I would feel tired right after but later on, as the day went by I was never tired.

The seniors on the team.
The seniors on the team.

Another way to making sure you have physical wellness in your life is nutrition. You can exercise as long and hard as you want but if you are eating junk food you won’t change the way you look or how you feel. You have to make sure you are eating from all the food groups and eating the best from those groups like if it was protein: chicken, fish, and nuts are good and healthy choices for that food group. My strength and conditioning coach would always tell us that if we eat right and not junk food then we will have the fuel and strength for whatever workout he had planned for us.

Shows that if we eat healthier we will have a better lifestyle. Image Source
Shows that if we eat healthier we will have a better lifestyle. Image Source

The last thing you need to do in order to have a balance of physical wellness in your life is having your brain healthy. Our brains are the most important organ in our bodies they control everything we do, see, and think. Without a healthy brain, we can’t do as much things as we want for example if you want to get a doctorate degree in any major and don’t study, do your hw, and not show up to class then your brain won’t know what to do on that one major test. Because you didn’t exercise it didn’t have the strength for that test. I have not been doing a great job exercising my brain and I’ve seen what it affects and it I am not proud of what has been affected because of my laziness of not to exercise my brain.

Environmental Wellness

Environmental Wellness is about taking care of the environment. Many people don’t care about the environment but if we don’t take care of it then it will not only make the outdoors look ugly but also hurt us later on.

This is how we can have the environment look like if we decide to take care of it
This is how we can have the environment look like if we decide to take care of it

If we decide not to take care of the environment and all the animals within it then it will not only hurt them but, it will also hurt us in the long run. It will hurt us by destroying trees and clean water sources. Also, it will hurt the animals both on land and in the sea.

This sai what is happening now and will only get worse if we don't stop it.
This what is happening now and will only get worse if we don’t stop it.

If we decide to take care of the environment in return the environment will take care of us by giving us fresh air to breath, beautiful scenery, and majestic creatures to look at and admire. We will also help pave the path way for future generations on how we should treat the environment some examples are by: Conserving  energy, Recycling as much as possible, and Not Polluting the air and water as much as we do now.

This is one way that you can help spread the problem that we created.
This is one way that you can help spread the problem that we created.

You don’t have to try and look for the biggest problem and try to stop it you can just look around your school or work and bring it to your peers. As a unit come together and talk about the problem whatever it may be and try to find a solution to it. Because all the little things count no matter how small or not important you may think that it is if you keep on adding them up you will find out that it came out to be bigger than the thing you thought was the biggest problem in your community.

This is a great way for people to figure out where to start help fixing the environment.
